Luka is the man who will surely take the credit when Pošip, the pride of Korčula winemaking, shoots to fame outside Croatia. Combination of low yield per vine and modern vinification techniques creates wines with a polished international style, which can bring negative comments from fellow islanders on the account of disrespect of tradition. But Luka is not worried because he took traditional winemaking to a higher level and still remained true to his roots.
Luka is also a passionate poet, in love with the sea and his island, so he believes in the freedom of artistic expression, both when it comes to words and wine. As he said, it takes a bit of creativity and insanity to do what he does. Even those who are far from being wine geeks will recognize the warmth and aromas of the south Adriatic island in Krajančić’s wines, but reinterpreted in his way.
Ježina (sea urchin) is his basic Pošip, which slips down the throat easily than a cold summer rosé and it’s one of the best value for money deals in Croatia. His most popular product is the elegant and well-balanced Pošip Intrada, a benchmark wine for the whole variety. Pošip Sur lie is another story, a complex and mature wine for real connoisseurs, which can compete with any great white in the world. We dare say that the best kept secret in Croatian wine world is Luka’s red wine Plavac mali, which should hopefully enter the market in near future.

I feel like this is deja vu! My experience exactly matches yours. Luka’s Posip, while polished, even international are explosive, sea scented and authentic. Equally gifted is his Plavac. Luka is no one trick Posip. He can do it all and he does so with love and of course poetry. I think I go open a bottle of Intrada now…
Stetson, thanks for your comment, glad that we felt his wines in the same way. But, but… My personal taste prefers less polished wines. I think with such quality of grapes he gets he can easily use less technology and put, to say it in metaphoric way, more Korčula in the bottle.
Have you visited his house (also winery) on Korčula?

Goran, I just wanted to answer for Stetson: Yes, he visited Luka’s house and winery. Stetson even wrote up a very nice report about this visit titled “A Day at the Beach with Luka Krajančić”. http://http://www.bluedanubewine.com/blog/view/a_day_at_the_beach_with_luka_krajancic/

Luka’s vino is truly Vrhunsko Vino, grown on worm Island of Korcula in the famous Cara’s field (CARSKO POLJE) it has that golden Look and rich fruty aroma that can only be grown in Carsko Polje. I am proud to say that Luka is my third cousin, I was home in 2006 and Luka give me 2 bottles of posip, which I drunk long time ago, but the taste and smell are still with me, thank you Luka, and keep producing our famous Posip..
Hi,
just coming back from a sailing trip to Hvar I had the chance to taste the Posip Intrada 2011. Wha an experience! Best white I had on all my trips to Croatia. Felicitations for Luka. I’m living in Switzerland and would like to know how i can get some bottles over to Zurich. Thanks for any help…..
