Tasted and written by our friend and passionate wine enthusiast eNOgAStrObRUtaL. Thanks to our colleague and great photographer Ivan Dimnjaković for his great efforts in bringing us to Plešivica.
Family owned winery and estate Korak has a long tradition. Their ancestors bestowed them with the best vineyard positions, so Velimir Korak feels that by producing the best wines they honour their heritage. Korak wines are not a product of the newest technology, but rather a reasonable cooperation of the nature, tradition and knowledge.
When you come to Plešivica Hills, you will see why they are so proud of their rather small terrain, 5 ha in total. Their vineyards look like amphitheaters settled on mostly southern slopes covering altitudes from 350 to 400 m. Here, the days are warm and the nights quite chilly, a microclimate for the ideal ratio between sugar and acids in the grapes. Korak family grows varietals that give their best in cooler climates: Rhine Riesling, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris for the whites and Pinot Noir, Syrah and Portugizac for the reds. After tasting their wines, you will realize they managed to keep the taste of these picturesque hills unaltered through knowing and modest use of modern winemaking technologies.

SAUVIGNON
If you feel the aroma of nettles, mowed grass or blooming blackcurrant, if you smell a bit of asparagus, peas or elder flowers, you must be holding a glass of Sauvignon. This complex wine is meant for wine enthusiasts who expect something more from that variety.
RHINE RIESLING
The most wide-spread variety in Plešivica, with the greatest potential. It’s the best wine for keeping and maturing. Lots of floral and fruity aromas, pleasant acidity and freshness. No wonder it’s called the king of white wines.
CHARDONNAY SUR LIE
One of the first Chardonnays made using an old Burgundy method in Croatia. A complex wine, aromas ranging from hazelnut and pistachio, various fruity and varietal aromas, ripe cantaloupe and figs, to butter and smoke. Rich and slightly spicy taste with a well-balanced acidity, it lasts very long.
PINOT NOIR
Being one of the most complex and demanding varietals in the world, Pinot noir is number one among the reds in Korak Winery. Playing with it, enjoying it and learning about it, achieving the best results, as well as occasional disappointments, is a great passion of the Korak family. An elegant and enchanting wine.
SYRAH
This world-famous variety is one of the latest acquisitions in Korak vineyards, so the best results are yet to come. Dark red-purple colour, wine with a strong and rich structure. Pronounced spice and fruit aromas, nice and smooth tannins, full taste.
ROSE SYRAH
A fruity wine, with a fresh and well-balanced rich taste.
CUVEE CHARDONNAY-PINOT GRIS
The primary goal was to keep the varietal characteristics and freshness. Fruity and floral aromas, very soft and mild on the palate.

The excellent photography really makes this nice, informative article shine. Good job!
Hvala puno za vijesti.
Plešivica is about 1km from where my family is from and the wines of this area are often overshadowed by the robust coastal grapes, but they make wonderful wines there.

Dear Frank and Miquel,
I personally enjoy reading both of your blogs. Miquel, it was nice following you in South Africa and I love the way you describe the wines, not too technical, readily comprehensive…
thank you for your prompt comments. Often we think nobody reads here winery visits and wine reviews, that people are just looking at food porn
