15 years ago or so it was impossible to find a good artisan ice cream in Pula. In fact, there are many ice cream and pastry shops (slastičarnica) spreading from the farmers market to Forum, but it’s better to avoid them. To get the real stuff proceed to the seafront near ACI Marina, where you’ll find Gelatando, a very small place opened this spring by enthusiastic Željka Domazet: «I finished ice cream making course in Italy, where I learned one simple rule – use good ingredients. That’s the whole secret.» Indeed, her ice creams are very good, especially the chocolate and various creamy flavors, while she still needs some practice to make the fruit flavors more authentic. We won’t be too judgmental; the sparks in Željka’s eyes tell us she’ll do her best to surprise us next time.
